Steve Sell and Midwest Genetics is a program that has always been on our radar and one that we have followed closely long before the formation of Crossroads Genetics. Steve always presents a good set of hogs at any show he attends and is consistently at the top end of every sale program. He genetics can be found in many pedigrees of many stud boars, sows, keeper gilts and barrows across the country. We have had a couple boars here that consist of his genetics and are ones that have garnered a lot of success for us. When he drove STRIKIN’ MATCHES out into the ring at the 2014 Crossbred Classic, we automatically circled him as one to kick up after the show. This one grabbed our attention for being extra extended thru his head and neck while being level from blade to hip. This one at the ground was as sound and square as you could make one. He has a big center body cavity with great muscle shape down his top. When we got him out in the back we were amazed at actually how big his legs and feet were and how much of a ditch he had down his back. This one strolled up and down the concrete with ease and had square, even toes on all 4 corners. We love STRIKIN’ MATCHES from the side for having that extra showpig look with awesome body depth. We love this one’s pedigree as he is a Monumental X Toxic 28-3. Two of our most popular and consistent generators here are out of those two boars so we cannot wait to see what this one does with that combination. We feel this one can make a great set of crossbred show gilts along with still siring enough stoutness and shape to make those big time show barrows.
